It's simple really: many of us refuse to see a situation from any other perspective but our own. It's a horrible problem really; one that has plagued our government, families and individuals from the beginning of time. I put some more thought into this topic, and I, personally, have come to realize how stupid some of the subjects disputed over really are. People have died because they're too rapped up in their own selfish minds to realize what is really happening.
I'm going to use an example of a really stupid dispute that happened in my own family. My grandma is notorious for never throwing anything out, not even grudges. When she found out my aunt had thrown away some of her miss-matched tubber ware lids, my grandma had a fit. That was her tubber ware, my aunt had no business throwing it out because one day, be it 50 years from now or tomorrow, she might finally find the tub to which one of those lonely lids belongs. (God forbid you cover the top with seran wrap!).
Now, to avoid strife in the relationship with her own daughter, when she found out some of her lids were pitched, maybe she should have tried seeing things from my aunts point of view before complaining about her disrespectful children for the rest of the day. Perhaps they took up too much drawer space and were in the way, which is likely. On the other hand my aunt should have expected this when she pitched those lids. Maybe she's saving these for one of her stupid projects? Maybe I should find a special place for mystery lids just in case the tubber ware fairy comes with the magical missing piece?
I'm going to try out my own piece of advice for a week and check back, I encourage you to do the same. My advice: before you pick a fight with a person, sit down and think. You may save your relationship with that person.
